Our last day in North Carolina this summer was spent visiting a very neat place, The Glen Choga Lodge. Cool story behind the place that actually relates to the Hays family. A lady by the name of Margaret Hays and her husband built the lodge in the mid 1800's. The road the lodge was built on was the only route from Franklin, NC to Andrews, NC, so there were a lot of visitors.
Later on, the powers that be decided to flood part of the area because of a near by dam being built. The road was covered and it left the lodge at a dead end. It is not visited very often by tourists anymore, but they do have the occasional church group or other types of groups visit and stay. Even though it's not a "rocking" attraction anymore, the grounds keepers do an amazing job keeping the place in tip-top shape! It is absolutely gorgeous out there.
We decided to visit, one because Granny T and Jim went on and on about how cool it is and two because at one time it was owned by the Hays family (too bad it's not still in the family!) P decided to dress up in his kilt and let me take a few snap shots.
This little "side" cabin was really cool. They built it right by the rushing creek. The frame is basically covered with thick tarps. It's the perfect newly wed spot!
Granny T, Papa Jim and the girls feeding the ducks and fish.
After leaving the lodge, we stopped to visit a church and cemetery they had moved right before they flooded the area. It was really cool to see all the old graves. The church is only used for funeral services now.
Little Bit decided she wanted to preach a little! Too cute!
Miss Priss decided to pick a beautiful bouquet of flowers from the yard and of course Mommy just had to take pictures! ;)
Even though it was the last day of our trip and didn't want to have to go back home, we managed to make the day fun. Now I think I am finally finished posting pictures of our trip to North Carolina! Well at least this summer's trip.....be watching for new pictures from the next trip!!!
