Treehouse part 1

The treehouse was started in June of 2013. It will be a work in progress for years to come, but definitely worth it. The bottom platform stands 10 feet off the ground and measures 12' x 12'. Once finished it will consist of a story and a half with a sleeping loft reaching over 20 feet from the ground. One day it will be one snazzy getaway!

The beginnings of a platform.

Supported by one very large red oak (right) and a slightly smaller water oak (left).

Pop came over to help!

All these ladders and power tools.....no thank you!

We have decking!

And of course as soon as we had the decking, the girls had to climb up and check it all out!

Getting ready to cut off all the excess.

Miss Priss giving ideas for the next step.

The Woodsman making sure he understands her requests.

Wow they're way up there!

Pop stepping back to admire.

Next, there had to be a better way of getting to the platform than using a huge ladder each time! What better way to solve that problem than to build some wrap around stairs! This is probably one of my favorite parts about the treehouse. The stairs and landing really incorporate the red oak and make you feel like you are in the trees.

Miss Priss was a huge help during this part. She learned how to lay out runners for a staircase and even drew out the last set all by herself!

Miss Priss's staircase!

Little Bit and the tire swing.
We had to move the swing a little further out once the landing was built.

Next came the framing of the downstairs common room.

Downstairs framed with a big opening for french doors. The common room is a 6' x 12' open area that opens up to the 6' x 12' deck.

Once the downstairs was framed, it was straight onto the loft.

Standing up the side walls.

Looking down from the 2nd story.

Pop and The Woodsman at it again as they finish up the framing for the loft.

Those ladders still make me nervous.

Helping out and hanging out.

If you're gonna have a house, you've gotta have a mailbox right!

Hope that water oak holds up!

And the framing is complete!

Stay tuned for siding, roofing, rails and so much more!
