Fiddler's Green War Between the States Re-enactment

Next on our list this year for reenactments was Fiddler's Green in Jacksonville, Alabama. This skirmish is put on by members on the Civil War band called Unreconstructed. The fiddler and his wife have created an amazing place that takes you back to the 1860s. You can visit their website here. The house itself wasn't actually built then, but most of the pieces to the house were. They collected doors, windows, hardware and anything else they could find from that era and built this beautiful home from those pieces.

Unfortunately, just like a lot of events we've tried to attend this year, it was raining! The show still went on, but we decided to wait it out and only attend the evening ball. Two young ladies were sure glad we did!

Miss Priss handed her dress down to Little Bit and the wonderful Mrs. Tucker threw together yet another dress just in time for the event. We really just wanted to take the girls to let them watch all the great dancers, especially since they missed the last one. Little did we know they would actually be asked to dance as well!

The very first dance was about to be underway when a young gentleman about 15 or so came across the yard, threw out his hand and asked Miss Priss if she would like to dance. Everyone was encouraging her to join in, but Miss Priss knew she had to hear yes from just one person.....her Daddy!
She searched the faces until she spotted his. She looked at him with a smile and he reluctantly nodded yes. She was off! I think you can tell from the next picture that she enjoyed herself for sure!

A Virginia Reel

She danced to two Virginia Reels and a Circle dance before her Daddy couldn't take it any longer and was ready to end the evening. She was able to pick up the steps very quickly and enjoyed every minute I do believe!

A Circle Dance (they switch partners in this one).

As Little Bit watched her older sister dance the night away, I could tell she was itching to get out on the dance floor too. The same young man that asked Miss Priss to dance the first dance approached Little Bit and asked her to dance as well. She responded with a polite "no", so he asked Miss Priss to dance once again.

I leaned down and asked Little Bit why she said no! Her response "I want to dance with a shorter one!" My, my we have high standards! Just then the announcer said "Raise your hand if you still need a partner." As Little Bit raised her hand, this little lad came from within the dance circle with his hand raised as well. It was meant to be! They spotted each other and met on the dance floor at once. They were off for Little Bit's first dance too!

Little Bit's only dance of the evening was a circle dance so she swapped partners, but loved the whole experience!

Before the dancing began I took the girls around the gardens and of course took some pictures. Sorry for the quality. It was dark and I didn't have my camera with me. Thankfully D had hers so we were able to capture the experience.

I don't know when their Daddy will actually be ready to take them to another dance! Hopefully it won't be too long! We all had sooooo much fun!

I hated not being able to be there in person, but these pictures make up for it! I feel as if I was there watching them. It's so incredible the experiences they have!
