GMHG 2014 was a great year! The weather was perfect, the company was great and the whole trip was a fun experience. The girls are getting old enough to want to go with us now, so they will probably be tagging along soon.
This year we made it in time for the opening ceremony on Thursday night. This tradition is probably one of my favorite events. Each clan has a member representing them and this person announces that their clan has arrived. Some speeches are serious, some are funny and others make you want to run across the field in battle. Each representative gets a torch to carry, make their announcement and then place their torch in the big cross in the middle of the field. It's a truly unique way to show the gathering of the clans!

All the clans have gathered!
This year Tom asked me to capture an exciting moment for their branch of the clan. His nephew graduated high school and Tom wanted to present him with a special sword. Forgive me for I do not know the story of the sword, but I do know it was something special to the family. I will have to get the details and add them in at some point. Here is their presentation:
This year we stayed in a rental cabin in Seven Devils. It was a nice little place for the most part. It was definitely the closest we have stayed to the field so that was a nice change. Not as much driving makes it a lot easier. If we could have just gotten rid of the neighbors and the air had been working, it would have been a perfect place.

The view from the porch looking into the kitchen (with all the hungry folks).
Full moon view from the front porch.
Sunday is always the big day for all the marches! Pipe bands, flags and of course the parade of tartans. The clouds look ominous in the back ground, but they really just provided the perfect amount of shade. The rain didn't hit until after everything was over.
Terry definitely makes things much more interesting!
Clan of excellence!

This year Kevin's son Conor competed in the junior caber toss. He did an excellent job and managed to flip a few logs!!
And last but not least, we stopped by Valle Cruis and enjoyed an afternoon walking around the general store. This is one of my favorite spots to visit while we are in the area. This trip always seems to be right around our anniversary and what better scenery to snap a picture to remember by!?!
Happy 12 years to us.
Looking forward to another great GMHG next year!
