Keeping the tradition alive!

I get a lot of crazy looks when I tell people my husband wears a kilt. At first it bothered me a little, but now I think it is just funny to watch people's faces as they try to think of something to say. The fact is most men did not start wearing pants until the late 1780s. So that means they wore some type of dress or skirt as a regular garment. If you are interested you can read about the history of the kilt here.

So why does P wear his kilt? Well for one, I think he looks pretty darn good in it myself! ;) Two, he loves history and is proud of his heritage. It also keeps history and those traditions alive. Just because our ancestors did things differently doesn't mean we should forget about it.

My father-in-law a.k.a. - Papaw! This was his kilt debut. I think he looks pretty sharp myself!

The Hay Clan is Scottish (if you were still wondering!:). My husband's 7th great-grandfather (read more about him and the Hays Cemetery here) was born in Scotland in 1786. He moved to the states in the early 1800s. More than likely Stanwick Hays wore a kilt or at least knew someone that did!

I just love this one! They look so nice!

Okay so I am the last one to get my act together and purchase my tartan material! I will be in this picture next year!

The 5th, 6th and 7th generations.

Just a "Little Bit" of our crazy lives.....

Gotta love her!

The Hay Clan 2011

Yesterday we had one last big family get together just to make sure P was able to see everyone before he leaves. We were able to get some great family pictures with almost everyone. Poor Drew was the only one not there, but maybe I can figure out a way to "edit" him into a picture?? Thanks to Rose for taking the picture.

Cheaha State Park 2011

This being P's last weekend home for a while, we decided to get out and enjoy the weather and the view at Cheaha State Park. We only stayed for a short while this trip, but it was nice to get out of the house and enjoy the scenery. Our good friend Rose was able to join us for the outing. Thanks Rose for taking some pictures of us as well!

Miss Priss's b'day party part 1

I know it's been a while, but things have just been busy for the Hay Clan. These are just a few of the MANY pictures I have of Miss Priss's bowling birthday bash! I will add more later I promise. These are just some from my camera that I took randomly. Thanks again to Pop for taking the bulk of the pictures. I will load his soon!

Mommy's yummy cupcakes!

The birthday girl and her gal-pals!

Miss Priss and her BFF.

Little Bit let Miss Priss and Sam take a picture by themselves only if she could be in one with the two of them too! Can't leave lil sis out!

Sam, Miss Priss and Caroline....all from Mrs. Barrett's class.

Little Bit couldn't wait to get her hands on Baby Brody. She would have rather sat there holding him then bowl! Even from this young age you can see that God-given maternal instinct! Love it!

Stay tuned......more to come!

Skating into 2011....

For her birthday party this year, Miss Priss thought she wanted to have a skating party. Because she had never been skating before, I thought it would be smart for us to "test" it out before we had a whole party there! So one Saturday when Aunt Laura and cousin Drew were visiting we decided to pick up and take the kids to the skating rink.

Of course it was great to begin with, but as the girls figured out that it was a lot harder than it looks, they weren't so crazy about it any more. Drew, who has been skating a few times before, was like an old pro. He and I had fun racing round and round the rink. The girls didn't like it as much as they thought! Overall we still had fun, but Miss Priss quickly decided that she would rather have a bowling party!

The kids even talked D into going out on the floor with them. She agreed to go if she could just walk beside them to help them skate. I couldn't get any of the other adults to put skates on and get out there with me. :(

Happy Birthday Miss Priss! Wow how time flies....
