Goats and babies goats.

Drinking goat milk is what they wait for every evening before going back up to the house!

I love my garden hat and felt cute.

Hay is cut and drying.

Potatoes are looking good! We should have a huge haul this year. Sixteen rows one hundred feet each!

Chickens and Guineas are growing.

Abby and Emily worked hard on getting these new beds up and going for this year. The beans are looking great!

 

Feasting Hall update

The kitchen is well on it's way! Posts - check, rafters - check, roof - check.

This will one day be the oven in the feasting hall kitchen. It's an old water heater tank that Perry cut and had a buddy weld the door on. He's going to paint it black and build in to be chest height with rocks around it for insulation.

Abby took this picture and we couldn't help but laugh. These two look like they really belong in an old Appalachian picture in front of the outhouse back in the early 1900s. Dirty feet and all.

School

The homeschool co-op decided to have a kid's market and let the kids sell things they grew, baked or made themselves. It was a very cute idea, and all the kids did a great job coming up with things to sell. There were balloon animals, cardboard swords, plants, keychains, popcorn, lemonade, handkerchief bags, jewelry and more. The Hay Clan sold tomato, pepper and herb plants, chocolate chip cookies and bracelets EC made. All items had to be under $3. We made over $80 that day. The kids were thrilled to take their earnings to the herb store and buy healthy snacks. They can't wait to sell things next time and go back to the store again. lol

The end of the year school party was a "splash"! The admins rented a big water slide jumpy house and the kids had a blast!

Then they loaded all the kids up with water guns and had a water gun fight. The kids had a wonderful time all day and took really good naps on the way home. Let summer break begin!

 

LHG

The girls and I have been very busy and involved with the LHG the last few months. And it all ended up in the paper apparently. The articles have all been well done and we've really enjoyed being a part of this lovely group. I taught in April and Abby and Emily taught together in May. It's pretty cool to get to share our interests, skills and knowledge with other like minded ladies. The topic for the May gathering was different types of bug out bags, what to put in them, where to keep them and how to best use them. The girls did an amazing job. It's cool to see them in their element.

This one wasn't about the LHG, but Emily was in the paper again. She sold tomato plants for the May art walk in downtown Murphy. The photographer and his wife, the journalist, were walking around town looking for good photo ops and ran across Emily. They said, hey we know you, can we take your picture and get a quote for the newspaper. Of course! Isn't she cute with her little stand!?! We just about sold out!

 

Garden

Planting all the maters out in thebig garden. I like the way we did it this year. Instead of one long row, we thirded the garden on the front side. One third okra, one third maters and the last third squash. It kept it better together for me at least.

More bees arrive

The second set of bees have arrived. We knew we were getting this hive, well kinda. We were originally getting a hive that had been split, but apparently the hive didn't like the queen. So, Dave gave us the other part of the hive that had been split. They look to be a very healthy hive! 

Mine and Abby's first time going out to check the hives by ourselves. It was a success! No one got stung and the bees seemed to be quite happy!

Look Ma! I'm holding bees. This is way scary for me, but so far I really like helping Abby.

Look at that pretty marked queen. So cool to have found her. This is from the 1st hive that was a swarm.
