Garden

Planting all the maters out in thebig garden. I like the way we did it this year. Instead of one long row, we thirded the garden on the front side. One third okra, one third maters and the last third squash. It kept it better together for me at least.

More bees arrive

The second set of bees have arrived. We knew we were getting this hive, well kinda. We were originally getting a hive that had been split, but apparently the hive didn't like the queen. So, Dave gave us the other part of the hive that had been split. They look to be a very healthy hive! 

Mine and Abby's first time going out to check the hives by ourselves. It was a success! No one got stung and the bees seemed to be quite happy!

Look at that pretty marked queen. So cool to have found her. This is from the 1st hive that was a swarm.

 

Decoration and Mamaleta's 90th birthday

Happy 90th Mamaleta! We thankfully made it to her surprise celebration and decoration all in one day. We drove down, stayed a few hours and headed right back home. It was a very long day. Thanks to Mac and Lesa for staying at the feasting hall and keeping an eye on the farm.

Of course, we got Pop to play some pipes. And of course, Benjamin was decked out in his Scottish shirt. And of course, Donna had all her Scottish stuff to display as well!

After the cemetery we headed over to Top Hat BBQ for the annual after decoration lunch. I think Mamaleta was truly surprised and enjoyed every minute. We also went over to Sulfur Springs like old times, but I forgot to take pictures.

Garden

Bees arrive!

More buzzing around the farm. The first set of bees have arrived. We actually didn't know we were getting these bees. Larry caught a swarm and decided to pass it along to us. 

We are so thankful for all the amazing help and mentorship Abby has received. Everyone in the Bee Club has been so thoughtful and helpful. We can't wait to see where this journey goes. 

Scully wasn't so sure about this whole thing. She ate a few bees and got stung a few times as well. She still had one stuck in her as she ran wildly around trying to make it stop. We finally managed to make things right and she's left the bees alone.
