Thanksgiving at the outfitter

Thanksgiving at the outfitter was a little different this year as we invited both friends and family. Eric shared his mom's dressing recipe and it actually turned out pretty good. I've got a few years of practice ahead of me to get it just right, but I'm certainly willing to try.
Deviled eggs.

Chocolate pie. Yum!

Getting peppers cut for the dressing and I find this. Of course I had to take a picture.

Cornbread for the dressing.

Just beautiful in the dish Perry and the girls got for me. Perfect fall color too.

Smoked turkey.

It was a beautiful day to celebrate and eat outside. Everything was delicious and the company was fantastic. From top to bottom, left to right... Jaybo, Eric, Perry holding Ella Claire, Jason, Pop holding Benjamin, Nonna, Keri holding Jase, Abby, Jenna, Emily holding Scully and Me.

After we carved the turkey I put it in the crock and simmered it down for some yummy smoked turkey bone broth. This stuff is amazing to freeze and add an ice cube or two to flavor soups in the winter. Bonus that it's extremely healthy and healing for you too!

Family Photo Shoot

After Thanksgiving lunch was over, I talked this crew into a couple of family shots. I mean we were all dressed nicely and matched so we have to take pictures right? Well I may have color coordinated and thought about the sunset timing and had pictures on the brain the whole time...

I can't decide which out take is the best though. This one kind of represents everyone perfectly at the moment though. Shooing dogs away, looking annoyed, trying to keep a smile....lol

Perry's hand placement of where my head should go, EC smiling away, BB's pure enjoyment there and Emi's far off stare.

Nonna and her grand kiddos.

Had to get Pop in there too.

Mushroom hunting and herb class

Turkey Tail.

Lion's mane.

More Turkey Tail.

Abby has been wanting to study and possibly become an Herbalist. We found a guy that teaches a foraging style herb class in Mentone. I gave him a call and he invited us up to join an essential oil class he was having. Perry, Abby and I went and loved it. It's exactly the environment and style she's looking for. She officially starts the level 1 herbalist class next month and he let her do it for half price. She's been saving her money for the class but now she has an extra $900. I think she's really going to love it.

Darryl, the herb teacher, came over to our house and did a woods walk with us. He pointed out all kinds of herbs and plants and mushrooms. We have a plethora of good medicinal plants behind our house. We as a whole family of 6 have enjoyed venturing through the woods identifying all the different things growing and what they are good for.
